The antidote to driving the best cars to nowhere

iTunes

Friday, March 19th, 2004

On Wednesday I decided that I need an MP3 player/recorder to allow me to record MP3’s of choir parts to learn at home and of course to carry my music collection around (all recorded off CD’s I own in case you were wondering). In looking at these and also looking for a way tio buy certain trance tracks I’ve been looking for legally I went to the Apple iTunes website to see what it could offer me. Unfortunately they won’t sell songs to evil backward Australians who are all software pirates as opposed to law abiding American citizens :-( but I did download a really cool piece of software to let me organize and play my MP3’s.

I’ve been looking for something like this for a while, something that lets me categorize my MP3’s, OGG’s WAV’s etc and also lets me keep ratings on each one. The browser allows me to select songs sliced and diced different ways and even to set volume level changes and mixer presets for each song. The CD ripping function works really well too and it even begins playing the tracks after the forst track completes copying, a nice touch.

I don’t think I’m going to buy an iPod but iTunes is a nice piece of software. I just wish I could figure out what MP3 player I will buy.

What a Weird Week

Friday, March 19th, 2004

This week seems to have gone so fast. It started with being completely exhausted after the album recording, something my voice is still not completely over yet, and has been weird since then. I’ve spent 2 and a half days at Lyell McEwin Hospital this week working with some lovely people which I must say, has been absolutely fabulous. Getting out and about in the glorious Adelaide sunshine has been fantastic. Last night I actually had a night in which is a real rarity. I managed to catch up on the washing up (long overdue and there are people coming over this evening), ring a whole bunch of people for life group and choir, re-organize my music collection a bit using itunes (more on this later) and spend more time talking on the phone. I think that normal life routines are beginning to reassert themselves so I’m hoping that next week will be a bit more settled.

A New Name

Thursday, March 18th, 2004

Princess CB is trying to come up with a new nickname for me. For some reason this fills me with trepidation, not that she would come up with a bad nickname, it’s just that she won’t tell me what it means and I’ll have to guess. Why I need a nickname other than Yellek is beyond me but apparrently that will not do :) .

My Famous Friend

I was listening to the radio this morning when I heard a sound bite of my friend Andrea who is now vice president of the Family First party (press release here). Congratulations on the exposure Andrea !

Blogarama over at La La

Wednesday, March 17th, 2004

Some more good reading over at Blog La La. Blogging of this quality has got me wondering how many other people have all these pent up thoughts that need to come out in public. Don’t get me wrong this is all highly entertaining stuff and I wouldn’t miss it for the world :-) . Hmmmm, gonna have to do some work on Princess CB’s template soon. Whaddaya reckon, is a weather pixie in order (although it has been down a lot lately). I’m gonna have to think of a few ideas I can see.

Note: This post has been edited to better express what I was trying to say in the first place.

What a Weekend !

Monday, March 15th, 2004

It’s finally done, after an exhausting 11 hours at church over 2 sessions we have finally recorded our Paradise live album. Thanks to BMG Guy Sebastian was able to be on a few of the tracks, at least in a limited way: we are limited to 10,000 copies. I ordered 4 :) . The choir was awesome, there were 150 of us and we were still going strong at the end, even after they sprung an extra set of 4 songs on us to make sure we had the recordings we needed. Tina, Cherrie and especially Duncan did an amazing job of getting us there by looking after and leading us.
Some highlights:

  • On Sunday morning Princess C offered to put some product in my hair to make it look fantastic for the DVD. I sat down and after a couple of minutes of pulling at my hair C says S help! and calls Queen S over to lend a hand. I then had both of them working on me at once (and you can bet I was enjoying the attention ;-) ) before Queen S finished off and then got me back after a few minutes to finish off with hairspray. Princess CB did the honours for the evening session. Thanks girls, I really appreciate the help, I got lots of complements.
  • The choir was really jumping (literally). During the praise set of the 7pm service (our 3rd of the day) I was finding it hard to stay in contact with the choir stand like I was supposed to. It was a moment of being completely sold out to God and giving it all for Him like I’ve never experienced before.
  • Princess CB lost her voice (and let me tell you that is a major handicap ;-) ouch, I thought I’d get that in now because she will hit me when I next see her :) ) and then had to do an interview for the DVD “making of” special which was very funny but also a great expression of how much effort went into the performance.
  • Oh Man, Lucien, what a guitarist!

I’m completely exhausted but proud to be a part of something which I pray will touch so many lives.

The Passion

Friday, March 12th, 2004

Ok it’s late and I should be sleeping but I wanted to get this down whilst it was still fresh in my mind. You see I just returned from seeing The Passion of the Christ. Now I know what you’re thinking, yes it was a moving experience and I did shed a tear or two but what I wanted to tell you about was what happened afterwards. You see the cinema that we saw the movie at was Cinema Nova in Rundle Street in Adelaide. After the movie when everyone was being quiet we walked out into the heart of the restaurant precinct and there the world was, eating, drinking, laughing.
They all looked as if they were having a good time yet in comparison to what I had just seen the contrast was startling. There was an emptiness and futility to it all which was brought into stark relief by the impact of Jesus death on the cross, a death that was for all those people and yet they were, and are, unaware of that fact. It made me want to tell them and show them that the sacrifice was for them more powerfully than anything had before. It really made Ecclesiastes make sense.
If you are reading this and you don’t know Jesus go find out about Him, read the Bible, go find a church, pray and ask Him to show Himself to you. It’s the only way that the emptiness in your life can be filled and the futility of existence without Jesus ended.
If you want to e-mail me about any of this I’ve set up a temporary e-mail address. The first 20 messages to that address will get to me.

Erosion of Christian Values

Saturday, March 6th, 2004

It makes me mad when Christians who should know better start saying things that simply adopt the prevailing morality of this world rather than making a stand for the teachings of the Bible. The Anglican Bishop of Darwin said this week that couples should live together before they were married.

Cabinet Reshuffle

Saturday, March 6th, 2004

This week Mike Rann announced a cabinet reshuffle which means, amongst other thinqs, that we have a new education minister. Let’s hope that the new minister does something about Shine SA and their social engineering hidden agenda.
