A New Direction

This post heralds a new direction for this blog. Firstly you will notice the new theme. I felt that the old one was well past its used by date and rather than displaying my less than stellar web design skills I have opted for the free Arclite theme which looks so much better than something I could have designed myself. I may end up tweaking the look a little but ths is genearally how the site will look.

Secondly the tone of this blog is going to become a lot more technical. Since my marriage last year I have not needed to express myself online nearly as much as I now talk to my wife :) . That being so I have been writing much much less on religion and politics. At the same time I have felt the need to write more technically to share my journey through the world of Java and web development. I am also working on starting an open source project which I will need to blog about to generate support. All of this means that I will be writing predominantly technical posts here from now on.

If you’ve been reading here for a while and the new format doesn’t suit you, thanks for the support and I hope you understand. If you have any comments or discussion comments are open below or I can be reached on FriendFeed.

Blog Yellek is Back

Well the blog is finally back. Sorry that it took so long. Somehow my WordPress database was corrupted and I had to restore from backups. The last post was on September 29 but it appears that the 1st of October backup didn’t run so I opted to go back to a September 12 restore just to make sure everything was running OK. I have the text of the posts from the last half of September so I will progressively restore those posts over the next few days as I get time.

Thanks again for your patience and I hope to be blogging more often now the site is back up.

Favorite Posts

I’ve added a Favorite Posts link over on the right so you can find the posts that I consider some of my better writing from the archives.

Feed Update

I added little icons to the categories so that the feeds were easier to get to. The icon is the one that both Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 have standardised on for feeds. I’ve also added a Bloglines subscribe link to have updates for the whole site automatically added to Bloglines.

Open For Business

This post marks the end of the trial period on this site and announces that the blog here is open for business. I have put redirects on the old site to here so if you have made the journey over, welcome. Have a look around and tell me what you think. I’m still working on a few areas so stay tuned for more updates on the new platform.

The new site!

Placeholder post. I’m working on getting this site up and running. Until then check out http://users.on.net/yellek

No the theme isn’t pretty. I’m porting the old one to the new site but I’m lerning a lot about PHP and CSS as I do it :) . Who knows I might even release it if it is good enough.

God’s Color Palette

This morning as I was out walking and praying I was thinking about this website (OK so I was having trouble staying focussed momentarily) and how drab it looked compared to some others I had seen. I was thinking about a color palette to use in maybe redesigning it a bit when I looked up at the sky and beheld the beauty of the sun and the clouds above me. Everything was in shades of cream and silver and grey in nearly infinite variations. I immediately thought (maybe this was God’s way of getting me focussed again) wow, what a great set of colors. I then realised that God redesigns the color scheme of the sunrise every day for our enjoyment, better than any web designer. Maybe I will get around to updating things around here and maybe not but I know my Father in heaven loves me enough to provide beauty for me every day if I’ll just look up and notice.
